hot, fun & competitive fleet at Soling Worlds

Soling World Championship - hot, fun & competitive fleet at Soling Worlds
PORTO ALEGRE, BRAZIL-(8-1-2004) Hot wave hits South America, sunny days are in the forecast for the whole summer, moderate winds and one of the best race courses in Brazil are ready to welcome one of the highest sailing level ever at the Rio Guaiba in Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande Do Sul in Brazil.

Several Soling sailors with pedigree are confirmed such as the Brazilians Daniel Glomb who won last year the Gaucho Championship and sailed at the soling class in Savannah 96, Renato Cunha from Rio de Janeiro: Brazilian Soling champion twice in 2001 and 2002, or the Europeans Balazs Gyenese European Champion in 2003, George Wossala three times World Master Champion and Preben Asbojornod Norwegian Champion in 2002, comming from the south the Argentine Gustavo Warburg 2001 World Champion, 4th in 2002 and 2003 South American Champion or Martin Busch twice holder the Paul Elvstrom trophy and third at the 2001 Worlds.

Also fighting for the title with the idea to give the best birthday gift at the 70 years of the Veleiros do Sul Yacht Club the local sailor known best in the sailing community by `Dodao` - George Nehm who finished 5th in the 2001 Soling Worlds, 2003 Brazilian & Argentine Champion besides other titles in the snipe class in the past is already at the dock analyzing the wind condition and forecasting all his chances bieng `the local one`.

The beer will be ready for serve on first serve basis and for sure some of us will be delighted to see Lars Grael catching the firsts and coldest ones at the `canoa` with his curriculum at the Tornado class wining some olympic medals and other world titles he also claimed Brazilian Soling championships and had good finishing at some South American ones, he also improved sailing together with Edu Penido olympic medallist at the 470 in Moscow.

Happy those who will be sailing hard each day at the 30 boat fleet but enjoying until the last minute on land with so many food, parties and friendship something that returned to the Soling Class in the last years.

The 2004 Soling World Championship starts on January 21st til 31st and will be based at the VDS (Veleiros do Sul) who will be receiving umpires and jury such as Chris Simon, or Nelson Ilha that at this time will be out at the water not as an impartial judge but as a competidor sailing with his kids after his extraordinary performance with the victory at the 2003 South American Match Race in Buenos Aires.
